Objectives
Combatting Climate Change
Our primary objective is to fight climate change by restoring vegetation and revitalizing Swiss ecosystems. By planting trees, greening the territory, and enriching the soil, we contribute to capturing tons of CO2 every year.
According to a Zurich study, nearly 25% of the excess carbon in the atmosphere could be absorbed if 1 trillion trees were planted worldwide.
Preserving Biodiversity
The Green Swiss Alliance aims to preserve Swiss biodiversity and combat soil nutrient depletion. For example, creating ecological corridors allows species to move and adapt to environmental changes.
Densifying vegetation helps combat erosion, drought, pollution, flooding, landslides, and many other issues.
Agroforestry—planting woody structures (trees, hedges, etc.) on agricultural plots—enhances soil fertility, drastically reduces the use of pesticides, and fosters a more resilient and less import-dependent agriculture.
Through massive increase of organic food production in Switzerland, Agroecology would actually restore completely the massive biodiversity lost we are facing, and reverse the situation, making Switzerland not only Climate neutral but Climate positive: our country would reverse climate change by absorbing more CO2 than it produces.
Improving Health & Quality of Life
Beyond its environmental impact, the Green Swiss Alliance aims to get access to everyone to pesticide-free healthy food.
This has a direct effect on our health & at the same time supports our aim to reverse climate change: one hectare producing conventional food actually releases 10 Tonnes of CO2 per year. Comparatively, one hectare of organic food captures 10 Tonnes of CO2 per year. LET US EAT OURSELVES OUT OF OUR CLIMATE CRISIS and regenerate our planet through our every day food.
With our initiatives we need a paradigm shift, where we would change our food habits, decreasing our demand for animal products, producing more legumes containing high proteins, and less grains to feed livestocks. This adaptation would also decrease massively our imports of livestocks & grains to feed them so having a positive effect on climate.
The Green Swiss Alliance also aims to strengthen social ties through participatory planting projects. Involving citizens, schools, and businesses in reforestation creates a sense of community and instills sustainability values in future generations.
Trees improve comfort in urban areas, where a single tree can cool the air as effectively as 20 air conditioners.
Increasing nature in urban settings also strengthens our connection to nature. This proximity raises awareness about the importance of protecting our planet.
Building a Resilient Switzerland
We now know that the world will change drastically in the coming decades and that our survival as a species is at stake. It is crucial to implement solutions today to anticipate an uncertain future. Trees are one of the key solutions.
Increasing forested areas helps regulate water cycles, addressing both droughts and floods. Large forests play a major role in creating clouds, thus promoting precipitation.
In a context where agriculture faces serious challenges in feeding the population, planting trees is vital for our future.
Greening our country and getting away of intensive agriculture is an act of foresight, enabling us to build resilience against the impending consequences of climate change.
